Rock Climbing in Santa Barbara

Gibraltar Rock

Gibraltar Rock is popular climbing destination area in Santa Barbara. A mix of trad and bolted routes, with top rope access on decent sandstone, it’s the obvious big rock on the left side of the Gibraltar Rd. There are various other routes across the street and up the road as well.

The Playground

A really fun place just to explore, hike, and boulder around. It’s a maze of boulders of different size and shape. You don’t need a guide book to explore and have fun here. But if you’re going to do some climbing/bouldering, there are few top rope problems and we suggest getting the guide book because they can be really hard to find due to the size and amount of rock formations of the area.

Fun bouldering on sandstone boulders and tons of undiscovered routs. See if you can spot the rock formation that gives the area its name.
