West Beach

Ratings: **
Perfect for: people watching
Amenities: restroom and restaurants at the wharf

As a part of the long stretch that runs perpendicular to Santa Barbara’s State street, West Beach is not particularly the sexy part. But it’s a popular beach nonetheless due its convenient location right in front of a stretch of motels and inns.

It’s fine beach to stroll and jog along to. There’s a place to rent kayaks on the beach and you can paddle around the wharf. It’s also a fine beach to sun bathe and people watch. And don’t forget to pay a visit to Stearn Wharf that divides West Beach from East Beach.

If you keep going up the hill past the marina (where the sailboats are moored) and the stretch of inns and motels, you’ll come across Leadbetter Beach — a much finer beach in our humble opinion and worth the uphill trek.
