Consisting of 5 islands, just off the coast of Santa Barbara, Channel Island National Park is worth a visit. You can camp or hike on the islands. Visiting the island itself can be done through an express boat from Island Packers.

For the more adventurous, you can also rent kayaks to get close to these islands as possible. Bird watching and possible whale sightings are a bonus.

Or if you’d like to have a taste of the local wine without leaving Santa Barbara: you can go wine tasting in Santa Barbara itself.

This “Little Denmark” tourist trap is still fun to visit. The houses, stores, roofs and road signs are Danish themed. Take Highway 101 north to Buellton, exit at the Highway 246 offramp and follow the signs to Solvang.
